The News desk is where breaking digital-asset coverage lands before it belongs anywhere else: exchange incidents, protocol failures, corporate moves, court filings and the stories that do not sit neatly on one specialist desk. It is the widest feed on the site and, because it is the fastest, the one where the corroboration count matters most.

What we track on this desk

• Breaking incidents. Outages, exploits, halted withdrawals and anything where the first hour of reporting is likely to be revised.
• Corporate and industry news. Funding, acquisitions, launches and leadership changes across the sector.
• Cross-desk stories. Events touching several beats at once — a court ruling that is simultaneously a regulatory, exchange and markets story runs here and is tagged into each.
• Emerging topics. Subjects that do not yet have enough coverage to justify their own desk. When they do, they get one.
• Everything still developing. Stories carried by a single publisher, published and labelled as such rather than held back.

Speed and accuracy trade against each other, and this desk sits at the fast end. That is precisely why every story here carries a count of the independent publishers reporting the same claim, and why a story with one behind it says Unproven rather than nothing at all. We would rather publish quickly and show you the evidence is thin than publish quickly and imply it is not.

Breaking coverage also ages differently from analysis. Early figures — losses, volumes, casualties of an exploit — are revised more often than they are confirmed, so a number in a first report is a claim, not a fact. As other publishers report the same event the count on the story rises and its status moves with it, without the article being rewritten to hide where it started.
