Blockchain is the infrastructure layer beneath the assets: the networks that order transactions, the consensus rules that decide what counts as settled, and the bridges connecting them. This desk covers the technology rather than the price — chain launches and upgrades, throughput and finality, interoperability, and the enterprise deployments that have been imminent for roughly a decade.

What we track on this desk

• Network launches and upgrades. New chains, hard forks and consensus changes, on Ethereum and elsewhere.
• Throughput and finality. What a network actually settles under load, as against what it can do in a benchmark.
• Bridges and interoperability. Moving assets between chains, and the security assumptions that keep making bridges the most exploited component in the industry.
• Enterprise and government deployments. Pilots, procurements and the small number that reach production.
• Node and client diversity. How many independent implementations a network relies on, which is what decentralisation means in practice.

How to read a blockchain story here

Transactions-per-second claims are close to meaningless as published. They are measured on private testnets, with simple transfers rather than contract calls, and often without counting the finality the number implies. A network advertising six figures and one advertising thirty may be describing the same real capacity. We report the conditions a figure was measured under, or note that they were not disclosed.

Enterprise announcements need the same discipline. A named bank in a press release is usually running a pilot with one team, and “built on” frequently means “wrote a proof of concept against”. Our stories say what stage a deployment has reached; where sources characterise it differently, the story is Disputed.
