Ethereum is the largest smart-contract platform and the settlement layer most of decentralised finance runs on. Since the 2022 move to proof of stake its security comes from staked ETH rather than mining, and most user activity has migrated to rollups that post data back to Ethereum rather than transacting on it directly. This page collects our Ethereum coverage, newest first, with the count of independent publishers behind each story.

What we track on this desk

• Protocol upgrades. Hard forks and the roadmap around them. Dates slip routinely, so we report scheduled and shipped as different things.
• Layer-2 activity. Rollup throughput, fees and bridging. A cheap L2 transaction still inherits Ethereum’s settlement guarantees only as far as its proof system actually works.
• Staking and validators. Entry and exit queues, staking yields, and how much ETH is locked versus liquid.
• Application layer. Lending, DEX volume and stablecoin issuance on the network — the DeFi desk covers these in depth.
• Institutional exposure. ETF flows, treasury holdings and custody arrangements.

How to read an Ethereum story here

Upgrade coverage is where crypto reporting most often outruns the facts. A change discussed on a core developer call is not scheduled, a testnet deployment is not mainnet, and a roadmap item is not a commitment. Our stories attribute a status only where a source states it, and a claim carried by one outlet stays Unproven until others report it independently.

Fee and throughput figures deserve the same caution. Different dashboards measure different things — some count L2 transactions as Ethereum activity and some do not — so two credible sources can publish numbers that look contradictory because they are answering different questions. Where that happens we mark the story Disputed and show both.
